Yesterday, the Choctaw Resort Development Enterprise (CRDE), owned and operated by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for a new travel plaza to be located on South Church Street in Louisville, Mississippi.
Layout of the proposed facility:
The Louisville Travel Plaza will be an 18,000-square-foot facility and will feature 150 slot machines, a Sportsbook lounge, 3,000 square feet of retail space, a family friendly restaurant and fueling stations for commercial and passenger vehicles.
It will be open 24/7 and will be found on 18 acres of land on the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Reservation, Crystal Ridge Community, found within the Louisville city limits.
This project is worth $25 million and is projected to employ nearly 100 people.
Commenting on the new project, Cyrus Ben, Tribal Chief, said: “This project has been discussed for some time and today it is great to see it come to fruition as we break ground.”
“This is a new project for CRDE that represents business growth for our Tribe. I am excited for both the Crystal Ridge community nearby and for the Winston County/City of Louisville community. We have a wonderful working relationship and as Tribal Chief for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, it is a great moment for me that we can work together to collectively better provide for our people.”
Furthermore, the main goal is to be officially open in the summer of 2024.

Beside Tribal dignitaries, the ceremony was attended by important people such as representatives of the city of Louisville, the office of Governor Tate Reeves and the office of Congressman Michael Guest.
Moreover, Louisville Travel Plaza is the preliminary name of the project. On that note, Chief Ben reported on a tribal competition to decide on a permanent name for the new property.

Chief Ben thinks Louisville is able to lure a lot of customers.
In this regard, he said: “You got Mississippi state university with the population, not only residents with the city of Starkville but also the student population as well and to be able to have that traffic here that goes further up into the golden triangle area and so we are very grateful for that opportunity because we’ve seen from an economic development standpoint what growth has gone on in the golden triangle area and to be able to get closer to that and be partners here in this community as well.”
